![]() Nellee learned to dance at Chilkoot's and all she could from local Anchorage instructors. ![]() Bobby is known for his "dance antics" and ability to "think on his feet" to improvise dance moves and combinations when he's dancing swing, salsa, and Country 2 Step. He continues to take lessons from top-notch instructors, and gives you the same up-to-date information in our lessons. His first West Coast Swing and Country 2 Step dance teachers were WCS champions Robert Royston and Laureen Baldovi. Bobby Maloneyīobby taught and competed in line dancing in California for years until he came to Anchorage in 2004. We teach Swing (West Coast, East Coast, and Lindy Hop), Country 2 Step, and LA Style Salsa (Latin "swing"), Line Dancing, and aerials that you can use in Swing and Salsa. Nellee and Bobby started teaching together in 2004. We show you how to do them safer and in time to the music. But only after you learn enough of the dance first. We teach drops and lifts ("air-steps") you can use in Lindy Hop, WCS, ECS and Salsa. Learn vintage blues steps and how to add steps from other dances to dance to slinky blues music, slow drag, and ballroom swing. ![]() Learn the fabulous One Step and infinite variations. Lindy Hop without the aerials is "Lindy." It comes in two styles: Dean Collins' or "California Style" (sometimes called "Hollywood Style"), that's more slotted and evolved into WCS, and "Savoy Style" – the original Lindy Hop from Harlem, that's circular. It's fun and full of aerials, dips& tricks and Lindy Charleston moves. It developed out of 1920's Charleston, and took moves from other early partner dances and changed them to 6 & 8 beat moves that fit Swing & Blues music, Big Band Swing and Jump Swing. Because all the moves use 8 beats, it's easy to put moves from Salsa into WCS and WCS to Salsa). Although basically a partner dance, Salsa also has solo dance moves too (similar to "Break Aways" in Lindy Hop). LA Style uses a lot of swing moves, but has some unique ones of its own. The step pattern is similar to ECS, but starts with a "Quick, Quick" walk, instead of a "rock-step." Country 2 Step is often described as "walkin' and turning."ĭanced in a slot, using 8 beat rhythm patterns (all double and single steps). It uses 6 beat patterns and it's a "progressive" dance – it moves counter-clockwise around the floor. ECS uses mostly 6 count patterns and each pattern starts with a "rock step." It's a "spot dance" (pick a spot and dance in the spot). We teach Single Rhythm ECS, but we'll show you the triple and double rhythm types too. Originally danced to 40's Big Band and 50's Rock & Roll, ECS still works for 21st century dance music too. WCS is danced to modern music (pounding Latin and popular music, like Maroon 5, Pitbull, Beyonce etc.), but slinky swing and blues music electrifies it. It's danced in a slot, using 6 & 8 beat patterns, and lots of triple steps. Versatile, sophisticated, sharp, and ever-evolving, West Coast Swing (aka "Smooth Lindy") developed out of Lindy Hop.
